Buildings and infrastructure

Artist's impression of the new Brighton Marina developmentIn the new development at Brighton Marina our building designs incorporate a high level of natural light, acoustic insulation and energy efficiency. We've also produced a sustainable travel plan to encourage cycling, walking and public transport

Our building and infrastructure design teams present an immense breadth and depth of expertise covering every type of development – from commercial and cultural to retail and residential – and every discipline, from acoustics, façade engineering, fire safety and lighting to long-span structures, ventilation and vertical transportation.

This approach is fine-tuned by our building specialists on novel designs which range from groundwater cooling and natural ventilation for the award-winning Manchester Civil Justice Centre, to free cooling at the Imperial War Museum North.

In collaboration with our construction economists, Franklin + Andrews, we have developed a ‘customised office solution’ to improve efficiency and reduce overall build programmes. The concept was tested on Laing O’Rourke’s new London headquarters building to much acclaim.

As part of our sustainable buildings services we undertake BREEAM assessments – a widely used and established method for environmental assessment in the UK, setting best practice in sustainable development.
